No hoof, no horse - an oily solution

Hoof care is perhaps the most important regular maintenance care you can do for your oily pony.  Regular trims, appropriate shoes for your horse's feet and your activity type (whether you choose traditional, barefoot, boots, or alternative options), and of course essential oils!

Different hooves need different oils, just as they need different shoes.  Here's a few options for you to try.  All these recipes should be made in a small spray bottle, mixed with 2 oz of carrier oil (any veggie oil, fractionated coconut oil is recommended).  Just spray on the sole and frog when picking out your oily pony's feet.

For mild thrush (or risk of thrush):
10 drops cinnamon
10 drops melaleuca
10 drops oregano
10 drops frankincense
10 drops thyme

For "hot" hooves (also apply to coronet band):
20 drops lemongrass
10 drops frankincense
10 drops thyme
5 drops myrrh
5 drops geranium

For general hoof health:
20 drops melaleuca
10 drops rosemary
5 drops oregano
5 drops frankincense
5 drops vitamin E oil
