Making Bath Time Clean Again
March mud season is here. That means you’re probably spending a whole lot of time and money in cleaning up your four-legged mud monster. But when its time for a bath, you want your horse to come out both cleaner and healthier than he was before... so why use harsh chemicals on his skin when you can make your own all natural bath products?
Equine body wash
1 Tbsp Witch Hazel1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup Castile soap
5 drops each: lavender, marjoram, and melaleuca
Mix the above ingredients with 1 gallon of water. Sponge your horse clean, then rinse thoroughly. In addition to cleaning off dirt and grime, this mixture has antifungal and antimicrobial properties.
Equine coat conditioner
4 Tbsp Fractionated Coconut Oil (note: this is a special liquid kind of coconut oil, not the stuff you use for cooking which will NOT work in this recipe)4 Tbsp Witch Hazel
10 drops each: cypress, cedarwood, ylang ylang, and lemon
Combine in a 32 oz spray bottle, and top off with water. Shake well before using, and spray your horse’s coat thoroughly. He should be damp but not dripping.
Equine mane and tail shampoo
1/4 cup coconut milk1/2 cup Castile soap
10 drops each: peppermint, rosemary, lime, and ylang ylang
Mix the ingredients together. Work the mixture into your horse’s mane and tail. Rinse well.
